Programme 2019

We have a full range of events organised for this year, hopefully something to please everyone,  including eight speakers and two visits one to a local nursery and one to a local garden..

Meetings are held in Barrow Village Hall starting at 7:30 pm unless otherwise stated.

Friday 8th February
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
followed by "MY LIFE AS A GARDENER" presented by one of our regular speakers Mr.Barry Gayton.

Friday 8th March
'THE HISTORY, FEATURES AND PLANTS OF MADINGLEY HALL GARDENS'
A talk about Madingley Hall by Mr. Richard Gant, from Cambridge,
Richard has been the Head Gardener at Madingley Hall for 29 years and
is the Cambridgeshire Group Treasurer of the Plant Heritage Society.

Friday 12th April
'FUCHSIAS'
A talk on all aspects of Fuchsias by Mr. Terry Cook. 
Terry is the Chairman of the Felixstowe Fuchsia Society.

Friday 10th May
'PELARGONIUMS EXPLAINED'
A talk on all the different types of Pelargonium by Mr. Ken Abel.
Ken has been has been growing and showing Pelargoniums nationally since 1999.

Friday 14th June
An evening visit to the gardens of Drinkstone Park, hosted by owners Michael & Christine Lambert.
Three acre garden with wildlife and ornamental ponds, herbaceous borders, roses, orchard, 
woodland and wildlife area, productive vegetable plot with poly tunnel and greenhouses,
Ha Ha and 'Our Folly' is a sunken garden in the old cellars.

Friday 12th July
A evening visit to Blacksmiths Cottage Nursery, Shorelands Wildlife Gardens and The Waveney Gallery.
hosted by owners Ben and Sarah Potterton.  Ben gave a talk on "Spring Woodland Plants" to us in 2015.

This visit is a longer journey and so we will meet a bit earlier.
Meet at the village hall at 6:00 pm to arrive at the nursery and wildlife gardens at 7:00 pm.

Friday 13th September
'BATS IN SUFFOLK AND BATS IN YOUR GARDEN'
A talk by Mr. Nick Sibbett from the Suffolk Bat Group. 
The talk will include a description of bat ecology and lifestyle, 
the benefits of bats in your garden and what we can do to help them.

Friday 11th October
'THE A - Z OF ROSES'
A talk by Mr. Simon White of Peter Beales Roses.
Simon is Garden Centre Manager for Peter Beales Roses and 
Vice President Norfolk & Norwich Horticultural Society

Friday 8th November
'WINTER PLANTS'
A talk by Ms Helen Worvill, 
Helen runs the Helen's 4 Seasons Plants nursery in Norwich
Helen will create a planting design with real plants in front of us.

Friday 13th December
'CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS AND DECORATIONS'
A talk by Ms. Zsuzsa Serer from Herbal Haven. Zsuzsa gave a talk about herbs last year.
Our pre-Christmas meeting will be followed by drinks and light refreshments, please bring a contribution.
